Choosing an AI agent is not a technology competition. It is a business prioritization decision. The right first agent is not the one that looks most impressive in a demo. It is the one that handles a frequent, measurable, sufficiently structured flow that is important enough to produce a visible difference within a few weeks.
Benchmark: according to INSEE, 10% of French companies with ten or more employees were using at least one AI technology in 2024, compared to 6% in 2023. Eurostat puts European-level adoption at 13.5% in 2024, up from 8.0% in 2023.
Five questions to answer before any choice
What specific problem do you want to reduce? What monthly volume does the flow represent? What data and tools does the agent actually need to touch? What level of error would be acceptable, and what would not? What indicator will tell you in thirty days whether the project is working? If any of these answers is missing, the framing is not ready.
This step avoids the two most frequent mistakes: buying technology before defining the problem, and choosing a use case that is too ambitious for a first deployment. A well-chosen agent is not necessarily highly autonomous. It is, above all, well-bounded.
European benchmark: Eurostat reports that 13.5% of EU businesses with ten or more employees were using AI in 2024, compared to 8.0% in 2023.
A simple method for the first 90 days
Days 1 to 15: map the flow, the data, the roles, and the exceptions. Days 15 to 45: test the agent on a limited scope with systematic human validation. Days 45 to 90: expand only what has demonstrated its value, stability, and traceability. This progression looks cautious. In practice, it is often the fastest way to get a usable result without accumulating risk debt.
That is why an AI diagnostic remains the best entry point. It helps select the right scope before building in Orchestra Studio. And if deployment needs to change working habits, our training offering secures adoption by the teams.
Market benchmark: according to Gartner, 33% of enterprise software applications will incorporate agentic capabilities by 2028, compared to less than 1% in 2024. Gartner also estimates that at least 15% of daily work decisions will be made autonomously by that point.
What the European regulation already changes
Choosing an agent must now account for upcoming obligations. The more a system touches sensitive data, important decisions, or regulated uses, the more critical documentation, supervision, and AI literacy become. The mistake is not to deploy. The mistake is to deploy without a framework and then discover too late that the chosen flow required more governance than anticipated.
Regulatory benchmark: the European AI Act entered into force on August 1, 2024. Prohibitions on banned uses and the obligation to build AI literacy apply from February 2, 2025. The main body of the regulation becomes applicable on August 2, 2026.
The right method is neither slow nor complicated. It is sequenced. Choose a clear problem, define the access boundaries, test small, measure, then progressively open autonomy where the data and quality justify it.
